Jews were also a part of this cultural mosaic, which we in Białowieża as well as other inhabitants of Podlasie like to brag about. Remember – this is the only thing we can do today for those who died in the Holocaust, what is more, we should also do it for ourselves.

In 2018, under the name “From Białowieża to Israel, from Israel to Białowieża,” I continued to study the history of the Jewish community in Białowieża. On May 7 – 15, I visited Israel, where I met the descendants of the Lerenkind and Halperin families and interviewed the oldest of them – Jael Peer and Dvora Lev-Tov, daughters of Szejna (Jaffa) Halperin from Białowieża and Amir Berger, grandson of Matilda Lerenkind

Presentation of the Museum in Bielsk Podlaski

muzeum2There were the presentation of the Virtual Museum of the history of Jews in Bialowieza in the Public Library in Bielsk Podlaski on 20th of April 2017. Katarzyna Winiarska talked about her research work and problems which she faced and about the effects the Museum brought. She also told about the project “Survivor from Białowieża” and about the working on a performance prepared by director Joanna Troc with children from Białowieża.
